Alexander Mackenzie – Violin Concerto in C sharp minor – Finale
Sir Alexander Campbell Mackenzie (1847 – 1935, Scottish composer) Work: Violin Concerto in C sharp minor, Op.32 Mov.III, Finale: Allegro vivace Malcolm Stewart, violin Orchestra: Royal Scottish National Orchestra Conductor: Vernon Handley Composed between 1884 and 1885. Mackenzie sent a copy of the first two movements to the famous violinist Joseph Joachim. For some reason he didnt like it and declined to play it. Instead another famous violinist came to Mackenzie’s rescue, Pablo de Sarasate.He premierd the concerto in 26 of August 1885 in Birmingham. The friendship between Mackenzie and de Sarasate lasted until the death of de Sarasate in 1908.
