Whichever one you enjoy more. Unless you've got world-class talent in a certain area, colleges don't care what you do as long as you show commitment.

The violin will look more academic, but will also show that you have something that you can relax with.. uni and higher education is stressful and they like to see you have things that can get you away from the stress.
Playing an instrument is a complex thing and the violin is ecspecially difficult.

Then again, tennis will keep you fit and will again show that you are able to relax with a busy lifestyle.

You could focus on violin, for instance and get a tennis buddy to play with once a week.
Or
You could focus on Tennis lessons and play the violin because you like it.

I say violin though, it looks more academic :)
Good luck

This is a purely subjective question, and the answer you choose will depend entirely on you. That being said, an objective view of the pros and cons of each activity might put things into a slightly different light...

Tennis will keep you in exercise, for as long as you have the youth and energy to enjoy it. The chances of becoming rather famous in the sport, or even being considered truly great at it, are infinitesimally small... there's just too much direct competition, too many people trying to climb over your failures to achieve for themselves.

Violin will provide another manner of self expression for as long as you've got the inclination and energy for it, which should be far longer than tennis will last you. Becoming famous and well considered in the field is easier by far, because the competition is indirect and allows for more co-operation between participants.

I met my girlfriend in the college band, and she's currently a doctor. (She wasn't a music major) You should Never pick what you're doing because it looks good on a college application. The whole attitude is something recruiters are tiring of quickly. (Read any of this years college magazines) They can see through it. If you love violin, play violin. If you love tennis, play tennis. Recruiters want to see you're passionate. If you're just doing things for the application, likely they'll see you're not passionate, and know that when you graduate it's not a passion anyway.
